WHO WE ARE

Opening gates to possibility.

Open Gate Foundation (OGF) Kenya is a women-led feminist institution committed to creating communities where women and girls can live, lead and thrive with dignity.

We work alongside women, girls, survivors, young people, families and grassroots leaders to address the systems that create and sustain inequality.

Our work goes beyond responding to immediate needs. We invest in leadership, strengthen communities, build partnerships and support people to influence the decisions and systems that shape their lives.

We believe change should be led by the people closest to the issues. That belief shapes how we listen, partner, design programmes and measure impact.

Our Perspective

Change begins when people have the power to shape their own future.

Open Gate Foundation recognizes that lasting change cannot be achieved through short-term interventions alone. Inequality is often rooted in systems, institutions and social structures that determine who has access to opportunity, resources and decision-making.

Our work therefore focuses on strengthening people and communities to become active participants in creating change. We invest in leadership, participation, knowledge and partnerships that help communities build solutions that are relevant, sustainable and locally owned.

We believe communities should not only benefit from development — they should help define, lead and own it.

Our Feminist Approach

Our approach is intersectional, survivor-centered and grounded in lived experience. We recognize that women and girls experience inequality differently depending on their social and economic realities, and we work to ensure their voices, leadership and choices remain at the center of our work.

Vision & Mission

What we're working toward

Our vision gives direction to the future we want to see, while our mission defines how we work toward making that future possible.

Our Vision

A just and inclusive society.

We envision just and inclusive societies where women and girls fully enjoy their rights, live with dignity, and meaningfully shape the decisions that affect their lives, families and communities.

Our Mission

Shifting power toward people.

We work to shift power toward women and girls by strengthening leadership, advancing survivor-centered justice, expanding meaningful participation, and transforming systems that perpetuate inequality.

Our direction is clear: build communities where dignity, leadership, participation and opportunity are not privileges, but realities for everyone.

OUR COMMITMENTS

How We Hold Ourselves Accountable

Our work is guided by principles that keep power, dignity, safety, and meaningful participation at the center of everything we do.

01

Shifting Power

We move beyond service delivery to create meaningful opportunities for women and girls to influence decisions, lead change, and shape the systems that affect their lives.

02

Centering Survivors

We prioritize the safety, dignity, voice, choices, and leadership of survivors throughout our programs and partnerships.

03

Collective Action

We strengthen feminist solidarity, partnerships, and movement building because lasting transformation is created collectively.

04

Challenging Systems

We address the root causes of inequality and actively challenge structures, practices, and systems that continue to exclude and disadvantage women and girls.

05

Sustainability

We invest in community-owned leadership, knowledge, and structures that can continue creating impact long after individual projects end.

06

Accountability

We remain accountable to the communities we serve, our partners, and the values that guide our feminist and survivor-centered work.
