About us
A Women-Led, Feminist Foundation
Open Gate Foundation (OGF) Kenya is a national alliance and a survivor-centered feminist foundation. We believe that lasting change is only possible when those most affected by injustice are the ones leading the transformation.
“Women and girls are not beneficiaries of our work — they are the leaders, organisers, and decision-makers shaping their communities and futures.”
Our Perspective
We recognize that gender inequality is structural—embedded in laws, institutions, and economic systems. We shift power by strengthening feminist leadership and building the institutional infrastructure that enables women-led initiatives to access resources and influence systems.
Vision & Mission
- Our Vision: Just and inclusive societies where women and girls fully enjoy their rights, live in dignity, and shape the decisions that affect their lives.
- Our Mission: To shift power toward women and girls by strengthening feminist leadership, advancing survivor-centered justice, and transforming systems that perpetuate inequality.
Our Feminist Approach
Our feminism is intersectional, survivor-centered, and rooted in lived experience. We recognize that women’s realities are shaped by overlapping forms of injustice—including climate vulnerability, poverty, gender-based violence, disability discrimination, and generational inequality.
Our Commitments:
- Shifting Power: We move beyond service delivery to true power-shifting for women and girls.
- Centering Survivors: We prioritize safety, voice, and leadership of survivors in every program.
- Collective Action: We strengthen feminist solidarity and movement-building.
- Systemic Challenge: We actively challenge the root causes of inequality.
- Sustainability: We build leadership structures that are community-owned and long-lasting.
