At Open Gate Foundation, partnership is not designed to be permanent dependence. We believe local leaders and communities should ultimately have the systems, confidence, resources, and freedom to shape their own futures.
That's why every initiative within our ecosystem has a pathway forward — from an initial idea that needs protection and structure, through mentorship and shared leadership, toward long-term independence.

Three stages. One pathway forward.
Every initiative within our ecosystem moves through a deliberate journey — receiving the right support at the right time, until it is ready to lead independently.
The OGF-Led Stage
A new idea needs room, protection and structure before it can grow.
When a new idea or small group first joins us, they sit directly under the OGF umbrella while they establish their foundation.
We provide the institutional foundation — including legal identity, financial systems, administrative support and office infrastructure.
The Council-Led Stage
As initiatives grow, leadership gradually shifts closer to the people doing the work.
Growing initiatives become part of thematic councils where they connect, collaborate and strengthen their leadership.
Partners begin making their own decisions and leading their activities while accessing OGF's financial management, mentorship and expertise.
The Partner-Owned Stage
The Gate opens fully. Partners are ready to stand, lead and grow on their own terms.
The partner develops its own systems, team, governance structures and direct funding relationships.
They graduate from being hosted by OGF. We continue as allies — working beside them, rather than managing them.
The destination is not dependency. The destination is locally owned, sustainable leadership.

The Jasiri Dada Initiative shows what this pathway can look like when grassroots leadership operates in complex and high-risk environments.
Jasiri Dada is a survivor-led movement working across Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Laikipia, Isiolo and neighbouring counties.
Their work focuses on restoring dignity, safety and opportunity for adolescent girls affected by sexual exploitation.
Because this work operates intentionally away from public visibility, Jasiri Dada needed more than funding. They needed a trusted institutional partner capable of providing a strong governance and accountability framework.
The Protective Shield
When Jasiri Dada began its work, Open Gate Foundation provided an institutional home that allowed the team to concentrate on survivor support while OGF provided governance, financial oversight and administrative structure.
The Sisterhood Circle
As the initiative grew, Jasiri Dada became part of the Voice of Freedom Council, creating space for shared learning, strategic guidance and stronger survivor-led leadership within the wider ecosystem.
Sustainable Impact
The long-term vision is a survivor-led model strong enough to influence practice across the region. OGF's role evolves with the partnership, moving from direct management toward institutional solidarity and shared purpose.
The strongest partnerships are the ones that eventually give people more ownership, more voice and more freedom to lead.
Hope does not always need to be seen to be real.

Some of the most important work we support is work that should never become public spectacle.
We do not publish photographs of survivors. We do not share their names or personal details. And we do not measure the value of this work by how visible it is online.
Our partnership with survivor-led initiatives is built on trust, confidentiality and a commitment to protecting the people at the centre of the work.

Survivor identities and sensitive information are treated with the highest level of care.
Safety over visibility
We choose protection and dignity over publicity whenever the two are in tension.

Strong institutional systems allow sensitive work to remain protected while resources remain transparent and accountable.
To protect survivors, mentors and frontline teams, inquiries concerning sensitive partner initiatives are handled through OGF's secure and vetted channels.
