Partner with Our Survivor-Led Councils

The Heart of Our Ecosystem

At Open Gate Foundation, we don’t just serve communities—we follow their lead. Our Autonomous Councils are thematic, survivor-governed arms that hold full decision-making authority. When you partner with a council, you are investing directly in leadership that is rooted in lived experience.

Mazingira Council: Climate Justice & Stewardship

“Mazingira” is Swahili for Environment. This council leads our “Save Green II Save Blue” movement, focusing on proactive sustainability and protecting Kenya’s vital ecosystems.

  • Key Focus: Reforestation (10M native trees goal), water conservation, and agro-tourism.
  • Partner Goal: We seek environmental experts, green energy donors, and corporate CSR partners to scale our Sustainability Villages.

Voice of Freedom Council: Human Rights & Advocacy

The Voice of Freedom Council is the backbone of our civic engagement, ensuring that the marginalized have a seat at the table of power.

  • Key Focus: Human rights advocacy, civic education, legal reform, and interfaith peacebuilding.
  • The Impact: Bridging the gap between grassroots survivors and policy-makers to ensure constitutional rights are protected.
  • Partner Goal: We seek legal partners, human rights organizations, and policy advocates to support our community forums.

Centre for Disability Justice – Kenya: Inclusion & Rights

Operating under the principle of “Nothing About Us Without Us,” this council is led by persons with disabilities to dismantle systemic barriers.

  • Key Focus: Accessibility, inclusive design, legal aid, and special needs education.
  • The Impact: Deploying community paralegals to secure justice for PWDs facing discrimination or rights violations.
  • Partner Goal: We seek health institutions, technology partners (assistive tech), and inclusive education specialists.

Kenya Youth Alliance: Leadership & Innovation

This council empowers the next generation of Kenyan leaders to move from “beneficiaries” to “solution-creators.”

  • Key Focus: Youth-led development, digital inclusion, entrepreneurship (Jipe Job Poa), and civic action.
  • The Impact: Linking youth in informal settlements to government procurement opportunities (AGPO) and digital work skills.
  • Partner Goal: We seek tech mentors, TVET institutions, and venture philanthropists to invest in youth innovation.

Open Gate Women Alliance (FWJES): Gender Justice

Formerly known as the Forum for Women’s Justice and Empowerment Society. A survivor-centered alliance advancing the power, voice, and leadership of women and girls.

  • Key Focus: Ending Gender-Based Violence (GBV), climate-responsive farming for women, and economic empowerment through SILC (Savings) groups.
